Red garnet
Red garnet covers gem-grade almandine and pyrope as well as hard industrial grades. We grade carefully because the two markets value very different things.

In short
Red garnet is dug from metamorphic rock or gravels, then graded either as a gemstone or as an industrial abrasive.

What it is
Garnets are a family of silicate minerals that share one crystal structure. The red varieties, almandine and pyrope, are coloured by iron and magnesium. Gem grades are cut for jewellery; hard, angular grains are used as abrasives for waterjet cutting and blasting.
